Recycled Newspaper Chain Statement Necklace

A contemporary interpretation of the traditional chain necklace, this sculptural piece transforms thousands of tiny recycled newspaper beads into bold, interconnected links.

The necklace is handmade from recycled T-Mobile advertisements in their signature pink and the fine print of AT&T newspaper advertisements. The contrast between vibrant pink and densely printed black-and-white text creates a distinctive pattern that reveals its newspaper origins upon closer inspection.

More than 5,000 individual beads are handmade from recycled newspaper and meticulously hand-stitched together to construct the necklace. Rather than using conventional metal links, each link is built entirely through this intricate process, turning fragile sheets of newspaper into substantial, dimensional forms.

The alternating open links and wrapped rectangular components create rhythm, movement, and texture while offering my own artistic interpretation of a classic chain. Fragments of words, letters, advertising copy, and flashes of pink become part of the surface design, giving the piece visual interest from every angle.

Measuring approximately 23" long and 1.3" in depth, the necklace makes a dramatic statement while remaining unmistakably connected to the humble material from which it began. A stainless steel clasp completes the design.

Handmade one bead—and one link—at a time, this necklace embodies the transformation at the heart of my work: taking an ordinary, disposable material and reconstructing it into an extraordinary piece of wearable art.

Because authentic recycled newspaper advertisements are used, variations in typography, printed details, and color make every necklace unique.
