Is the jewelry really made of Newspaper? Yes. We also use Sweetener Packets,
Loser Lottery Tickets and Expired Coupons.

Why Newspaper? The Designer, Holly Anne Mitchell began exploring recyclable paper materials
while studying at The University of Michigan in 1990. She had a project in a Metalsmithing class to create a
piece of jewelry consisting of only non-traditional materials (no metal, precious stones, etc.). She chose
newspaper comic strips because of the rich color patterns. She was hooked! Her designs have evolved over
the years to include Sweetener Packets, Expired Coupons and Loser Lottery Tickets
.

How is it made? The Paper is cut into strips and hand-formed into uniform-sized beads. The Paper
Beads are stitched together with (in many cases) Metal, Glass, or Swarovski Crystal Beads into the form of
Bracelets, Brooches, Earrings, and Cufflinks.

Are The Paper Beads Protected From Moisture? There is a moisture-resistant
sealant on the beads to protect from moisture (such as rain and moisture of skin) and protects the paper
from tearing. We remind customers to exercise care: The beads are moisture-resistant, not water-proof. So
the jewelry is protected from light moisture such as rain and skin moisture, but cannot be worn while
swimming, doing the dishes or in the shower!
